Republic of Bihar
Published in Paperback by South Asia Books (01 April, 1992)
Author: Arvind N. Das
Average review score:

I'm surprised!
The sales ranking of this exceptional book depicts the fact that the State of Affairs prevailing in the State of Bihar in India is virtually unknown in the world. The writing is so excellent, satirical and humorous, that even Parkinson's Law pales as compared to this book. The use of English language is exceptionally brilliant. The renowned writer has earned brickbats for speaking out the bitter truth, unfortunately. The analyses of examples are shocking and unbelievable but true. Maybe ignorance is a bliss!

Saris of India : Bihar & West Bengal
Published in Unknown Binding by Wiley Eastern : Co-published by National Institute of Fashion Technology and Amr Vastra Kosh ()
Author: Rta Kapur Chishti
Average review score:

mandatory for anyone interested in Indian textiles
This book, like the one on Saris of Madhia Pradesh, gives excellent insight into Indian textile cottage industry and its interdependence between dealers and producers.Rta Kapur is definitely one of the most knowledgable persons in the field. She knows the rich Indian tradition in textiles and has travelled to the most remote places to gather information. Each chapter starts with "a weaver's journey". Here we get a feeling of what life in rural India can be.An excellent book with beautiful pictures.

Public finances in Bihar
Published in Unknown Binding by Har-Anand Publications ()
Author: Govind Bhattacharya
Average review score:

A seminal attempt at understanding the finances of a state
The book is a valuable attempt to analyse the various parameters of economy, banking and finances of the state of Bihar. I think this is the first book of its kind on any state in India and the author certainly deserves commendation for the work. Though the data which relate upto the period 1992-93 are now outdated, yet the methodology still remains valid. For the first time there is a book which contains some authentic data on the state of Bihar along with an incisive analysis. It may interest the reseacher and the laymen alike. The language is lucid and simple and the flow is maintained. The most impoprtant thing is that the author has collected an enormous amount of data on Bohar which itself makes the book worth itself. And righly, he has castigated the Government for its failures the signs of which are there for everyone to see. The chapter on public debt burden of the state is extremely interesting, the author later has also constructed a model to prove that the state has irrevocably fallen into the debt trap. But at the same time, too many tables juxtaposed along with text some times may seem a little boring also, especially for the lay reader. I wish the book is updated so that people can know about the post-scam Bihar. The author profile is singularly absent in the book.

Lalu Prasada Yadava

a real good with that could still be better
a good book. possibly the first serious book in Hindi on Laloo prasad. It tries to look at the leader, messiah, and the crafty politician aspects of the former chief minister of bihar. could be better if examples were short and crisp.

Difficult
I found it very difficult to get through this book. This could possibly be because it is in Indian(I think), which I do not understand. However, its compelling graphics led me to give this book 3 stars. Hi ho to Ambaraiasa Kumaara!
